Tryout Process

REQUIRED FOR TRYOUTS

  • Complete the on-line tryout registration, pay the $20 fee (non-refundable)

  • Print the tryout registration form (emailed to you), sign and bring to your first tryout

  • Birth Certificates must be presented for players new to FC Alliance.  Returning players do not have to present birth certificates.

  • Shinguards (mandatory)

  • Turf-appropriate shoes (all sessions are on turf fields)

  • Water (only water is permitted on the turf fields)

  • Warm-ups to keep warm while staying on the sidelines.

  • Do not wear any clothing or uniform pieces from past teams.

 WHAT TO EXPECT AT TRYOUTS

  • Each age group will have two 1-1/2 or  2 hour tryout sessions. A third session may be scheduled if needed.

  • Team coaches from your player’s age group, other coaches, and Trainers will evaluate all players.

  • Tryout results (jersey #’s) will be posted on the tryout page within 24 hours.

  • All players will then be contacted by the team coach within 48 hours by phone.

IF YOU ARE INJURED

  • If you are injured and unable to compete fully at tryouts, you will need to bring a note from your doctor detailing the injury along with an estimate of when you can resume training.

  • Injured players will be assigned a jersey number, and their injury will be noted on the tryout evaluator sheet.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TRYOUTS

Following the final tryout session for your age group, the coaches will meet with the coaching director staff and a member of the FCA Executive Committee to form the teams. The top 16 players will go to the Gold team, the next 16 players to the White team and so forth. (U10 6v6 teams will have a roster of 9-10 players and U11 9v9 teams will have a roster of 12-14 players on each team)

How will I be Offered a Spot on a Team?

Team placement indicated by jersey number will be posted at www.fcalliance.com on the Tryout page soon after the final tryout session. Meanwhile, the coach of the Gold team will start calling the players to offer them a spot on the team. Once the Gold team is complete, the White team coach will start calling. While our goal is to have everyone notified within 48 hours this depends on the coach’s ability to reach players and player commitment. You can help the process by sticking close to your home phone or your cell phone following the final tryout session. A decision on an offer will be expected when the coach calls. You should give thought in advance to the various offers you might receive, so you can give the coach an answer right away. This answer is your verbal commitment to the team and you are expected to honor it.

All players who try out will receive a phone call, regardless of whether they have been selected for a team or not. If you have not heard from FCA five days after the final tryout session, please contact:

U10 – U12 Dave, Schumacher, Director of Player Development 206-963-9919
U13 – U18 Dave Wymer, Director of Coaching 206-321-8630

Commitments to Teams are Taken Seriously

When a player makes a commitment to FC Alliance by accepting an offer extended by a coach, that commitment is not taken lightly. The coaches take careful consideration in extending an offer to a player and each player should do the same in making their decision to accept a roster spot. If a player breaks their commitment, not only will we have lost one player, but we will have lost another who would have committed and filled the roster spot. Consequently, FC Alliance adheres to a strict “no refund” policy once a player has committed to a team. Once you commit, you should not continue to tryout with other clubs with the intent to switch to other programs. Other select programs within NYSA will honor these commitments and may deny participation in their tryouts. Withdrawing after commitment places teams in a very difficult position and could result in teams folding because it could not maintain the minimum roster.

How Can I Register for a Team?

Once you have received a phone call from the FC Alliance coach and have accepted a position on the team, go to Player Registration to complete player registration. Click on the Registration link in the left hand column. Registration will open the day after tryouts have been completed. Select your team, acknowledge the waivers/notices, and set up the payment plan or pay in full. If you will be using the payment plan be sure to check the Auto Payment Plan box. Please be sure all information is entered, especially the medical insurance and emergency contact information. This is printed on the registration form and kept by the team manager in the team notebook. All players must be registered before the team can start training.

Team Formation Meeting

Next, the team will get together for a Team Formation Meeting. Teams meet to: 1) turn in paperwork (Player Registration/Medical Release Form (received via email after you complete the online registration) and a copy of your birth certificate), 2) submit a check to the Team Treasurer to cover tournament fees, league fees, etc, and a check to the Team Uniform Coordinator for a practice t-shirt 3) sign up for volunteer roles, and 4) talk about the upcoming year. Coaches or Managers will let you know when and where the meeting will be held. Each player must have a parent or guardian attend the team meeting. Each team is assigned a Mentor (a member of the FCA Executive Committee) to assist the team during formation.

How Do I Get a Uniform?

Uniform fitting nights for each age group will be held at Soccer West in Redmond after the team meetings have been held. The fittings will be in the evenings and the schedule will be sent to you and also posted on the FCA website. Uniform numbers are allocated as follows - Gold: 1-20, White: 21-40, Blue: 41-60 . When the club changes uniforms, the uniform player numbers are reallocated. In years where the uniforms are reused, existing players can keep their old numbers.
